NetIQ AppManager Enables Mentor Graphics to Achieve 99.998 Percent Uptime of its Worldwide Messaging Environment

Geographically Distributed Microsoft Exchange Infrastructure Encompasses More Than 100 Severs in 25 Countries

SAN JOSE, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—April 13, 2004— NetIQ Corp. (Nasdaq:NTIQ), a leading provider of Systems & Security Management and Web Analytics solutions, today announced that Mentor Graphics has achieved 99.998 percent uptime of its Microsoft Exchange messaging environment after implementing NetIQ(R) AppManager(R).

Mentor Graphics, a provider of electronic hardware and software design solutions for board and chip manufacturers, implemented AppManager in 2002 because it needed to assure the highest possible performance and availability of its messaging infrastructure. The company's mission-critical Exchange installation includes over 50 messaging and collaboration servers and spans 25 countries allowing up to 4,500 users to communicate and collaborate. After evaluating multiple management solutions, Mentor Graphics chose AppManager for its consolidated user interface, granular and highly accurate monitoring capabilities, detailed, customizable performance reports and sophisticated root cause analysis.

"With AppManager's automated alerting and reporting features, we are able to easily pinpoint problems as they begin to occur and proactively take action to prevent Exchange outages anywhere on our network," said Adam Fazio, senior exchange administrator at Mentor Graphics. "We're required to give company management quarterly infrastructure availability reports. Not only does AppManager's reporting engine makes it easy to do that, but the performance and availability results we're achieving make it a pleasure to report."

Fazio uses AppManager to closely monitor his Exchange environment, which includes 15 authentication domains running Microsoft Windows NT and Active Directory, over 40 Exchange 5.5 and Exchange 2003 servers and multiple Web servers supporting Outlook Web Access via Microsoft Internet Information Server. AppManager also allows Mentor Graphics to monitor server hardware performance and availability, including hard disk status, CPU utilization, and memory usage and disk space.

With an increasing use of Active Directory, Mentor Graphics is also deploying AppManager to maintain the availability, security and performance of that critical infrastructure component; having found NetIQ's solution provided the greatest breadth of monitoring capabilities.

In addition, Mentor Graphics regularly finds new uses for AppManager. For example, some of the remote servers were having disk space and performance issues but the root of the problems was unclear until AppManager was installed each at location. The auto discovery features of AppManager detected software vulnerabilities, which could then be cleaned up to achieve increased network stability.
